The word Chiffon comes
from the French which is called as Cloth or rag. Chiffon gives a transparent
appearance because it is a lightweight plain woven fabric with mesh like weave.
This fabric gives some stretch to clothes and make feel slightly rough. Chiffon
is commonly made from cotton, silk or synthetic fibres. If Chiffon is made from
natural fibres can be dyed to any shade or it is made from polyester, it
requires specialized disperse dyes.
For manufacturing process, similar weighted waft and warp threads are used on the loom because it is a plain balanced weave. The fabric gives Checkered look which means mesh like effect is obtained by using the criss-cross pattern weave which is generally used for chiffon. Alternatively, twisted yarns are used in weaving the chiffon fabric which results in the slight creased of fabric in different directions. Chiffon fabric is mostly used in chudihar dress materials, sarees, salwar kameez, scarves, belts and accents. The beautiful chiffon sarees and flow Dupattas and salwar kameez plays an important both in south and north India fashion for decades.

How
to Take Care of Chiffon Sarees
Hand
Washing Instructions:-
Fold
the garments into half because it is easier to wash and put them in a tub. Fill
the tub with full of lukewarm water and mild detergent liquid. Swirl it around to
clean it. Chiffon need to be soak in water for about 30 minutes. Rinse it in
the clean water or stream of running water until soap bubbles are removed. Don’t
wring them because shape would be damaged. Extract the water from the fabric by
placing them on the towel and then cover them with another towel. Push down the
towel to remove excess water. Then allow them to dry as normally.
While
washing in Washing Machine.
To
prevent the fabric, use a meshy laundary bag that will prevent from getting
wrapped around the drum of washing machine. Don’t put the garments with the
other garments in washing machine because they can damage the delicate chiffon.
Wash
it with cold water in washing machine. Add capful of mild detergent and set the
washing machine to delicate and shortest spin cycle.
To
remove excess water, use the towel as told earlier in the hand washing
instructions.
Drying
process
Don’t
wring the fabric because it causes damage. Dry it in shade. Don’t hang the
fabric for drying. Avoid direct sunlight. It makes the fabric weak.
How
to Iron Chiffon?
Dry
ironing is the best for chiffon material. Iron should be made on the silk or
delicate setting. First smooth it with your own hands on the ironing board and
then iron gently. Don’t press hardly on the fabric because it stretches very
easily and don’t return to its original shape. Don’t do it on the same place
for too long. Keep the iron moving over the fabric.
How
to store Chiffon sarees?
Don’t
hand the fabric for long time.
use padded hanger, if you want to hang it for
some time.
Keep
changing the folds of the fabric every once in a while, if you store it for
long periods.
